Hello to my new Etsy shop and other Itsy adventures..

Seaside inspired Retro homewares for sale.

If you have been a  follower of my facebook page you will already know that I launched a new Etsy shop a few months ago. It's been a great success and I've loved every minute of it! Many moons ago I worked in the antiquarian trade in design and print shops on Cecil Court, just off Charing Cross Road in London. My husband too was a Modern First Edition collector and bookseller, so I'm no stranger to researching the values and scarcity of collectable items and detailed cataloguing. So it's much like old times for me although we actually used to produce printed catalogues back in the day - no fancy computers. social media or imaging apps back then!

Kitsch and vintage homewares for sale

My shop contains a mixture of china from my Itsy Bitsy hire collection and other homewares and items I'm picking up on my travels. Please follow my shop (click on my Etsy Logo) or find me on Etsy by searching Itsy Bitsy by the Sea. I'm posting new items weekly. I also have  a new Instagram account 'itsybitsybythesea' where I will be posting images of items for sale and curating images from my life in a seaside town and as I style my Retro and vintage inspired home (an old B&B guest house a few hundred yards from the prom), and welcome guests to my Air b&b room.

This site will remain home to my Prop hire collection and styling services, but will become more of a vintage and retro lifestyle blog with posts of inspiration and links to other sites I love. I will of course continue to write about my styling work for weddings especially those I work at the Midland Hotel in Morecambe. Who doesn't love a vintage wedding?

Hope you will find something of interest on this site and thank you for dropping by. Visit again soon!

Spring styling

Spring has finally arrived! After a short bout of the lurgy, I was able to exit my sick room to sunshine and daffodils, how lovely. I love Spring time and the potential for stying your home and parties, all that Easter inspiration and bundles of colour. My favourite flowers Rununculus start to make an appearance, and we all just start to feel invigorated by sunny days. So many things to feel grateful for..

There's still time to book my styling services and hire props for your summer weddings and celebrations. Pop on over to have a look at my Vintage Wedding Board on Pinterest for oodles of inspiration to enjoy.

PLEASE NOTE: China hire is no longer available (I've just worked my last china hire job). All china shown, with the exception of the Homes and Antiques feature, is now available to buy from my Etsy shop, ItsyBitsyBytheSea.

Winter wedding styling and Xmas celebrations.,

What's not to love about this time of year? I'm a winter baby and a Sagittarian to boot, so I'm busy being drawn to all things glittery and fun.

Xmas Pastels.
(Vintage china and baubles by Itsy Bitsy Vintage - top left corner)

There are so many ways to style your parties over the Xmas and New Year season. whether you love the romance and magic of it all, the glitter and glam, or the rustic and botanical possibilities as you bring a little of the outside in and cosy up in front of a roaring fire. Vintage is always big in my household, as my husband and I try and recreate a little mid century nostalgia into our retro home, harking back to former Xmas's from our 1960's childhoods. In my mind decorations were better (and scarier!) and chocolate bars were the size of your arm. Our two young men (now in their twenties) let me indulge in this strange passion, and I wonder what they may take with them into their own family traditions when they have kids of their own?

A mid century Xmas!

So here are a few winter and seasonal inspiration boards I've created for you to enjoy, with vintage very much at their heart. Hope you enjoy them, and which would you choose?

Autumn weddings and Halloween parties.

Dramatic vintage props, clever floral displays and a touch of candlelight..

As the nights draw in and you start to celebrate during my favourite season, you can start to add a bit of drama and candlelit romance to your styling. Be bold and go for painted pumpkins or gourds with a touch of halloween burlesque or why not try mixing vintage props with autumnal flowers for unique centrepieces.

The following set of photos showcase a uniquely styled October vintage wedding by Itsy Bitsy Vintage and I simply loved combining my love of vintage accessories with beautiful floral displays. Add to that some ambient candlelight and the room transformed as the sun set over Morecambe Bay. Venue: Midland Hotel, florist: Flowers By Design, photography: Jonathan Bean Photography.

Since working this wedding I have acquired a lovely collection of black birdcages, which I am currently styling in a spooky gothic fashion for my own halloween celebrations. I always try and use props in unusual ways such as caging a pair of vintage shoes or a framed vintage photograph topped off with a jaunty top hat. Think outside the box, be whimsical, have fun, be the drama queen you always wanted to be!

Happy Halloween!

Wedding Themes and Venues: Styling Ideas Part 2

A 1960's inspired cocktail party for those special birthdays!

Some of you just love a party, some of you also love a particular film or TV show. With bags of creativity and a smidgen of confidence you can throw a celebration like no other. Take your passions, throw in your own personal style, bags of creativitiy and hey presto, you too can party like Mad Men, or the Great Gatsby, dress like Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffanys, dance to the tunes of the Jazz Age, kick your heels to the Charleston, travel the world as a Steam Punk Exlorer, share a Brief Encounter themed affair, or sup tea in a Downton Abbey garden party.

Your choice of venue is if course key to how you might start to style your party, and with so many wonderful venues to choose from, this will be your starting point for dressing a room and yourself. The growing interest during the last year in teepee and barn weddings suggest that you like to party big, have fun and enjoy the festivities in plenty of outdoor space. You can throw into the mix pretty much anything in these spaces (you will need to think big with your styling) and party games. For more glamour, think heritage hotels and unusual entertainment venues such as theatres and cinemas, where you can be transported back in time to the heyday of the picture and pleasure palaces of the 1920's and 30's. Within these incredible buildings you can become your own showgirl or stars of your own hollywood show!

Whether you choose to DIY in a barn or prefer the focussed customer service of a 5 star hotel, Itsy Bitsy Vintage can help you develop your style and theme with design consultations and prop hires. Here are a just a few ideas for themes, which would you pick?

Images have been collaged from a selection of my own work and other images taken from Pinterest to provide these inspiration design boards. All images for Itsy Bitsy Vintage taken by Jonathan Bean Photography.
